I just read the following in the Shopper’s Edge:

Helping Hearts and Hands
Heartland of Indian Lake
14442 State Route 33 West
Lakeview,Ohio 43331
(937) 843-4929

“We are starting a program to help our Military families by sending coupons to the military bases. The families of Military
personnel can use the coupons for items in the commissaries on base up to 6 months after expiration. We are going to try and send a package out weekly to different bases around the country and overseas.

We are asking you (staff and community members) to bring in your unwanted coupons. YOU DON’T EVEN NEED TO CUT THEM OUT! Our therapy department and activity group will be willing to cut them out for you. We will also be keeping a tally on how much we will be sending weekly. It will be fun to see how much we can save our military families.

There will be boxes located at different spots in the building (front door, therapy and dining room) for you to drop off your
unwanted coupon pages.

Thanks for the help and support of our Military families!”

Now we can donate locally without spending time clippping or money on postage!  Thank you Heartland of Indian Lake!

One thing that drives me crazy is throwing away expired coupons. So, I don’t! I donate them.

Military families are allowed to use expired coupons up to 6 months after the expiration date on base and at the commissaries abroad. They can not use them in the US only overseas.

For more information you can visit http://www.ocpnet.org/ or http://www.couponstotroops.com/. There’s even a project directory that lists several groups around the US that collect coupons to send overseas.  The coupons should be trimmed and grouped by type and placed in food and non-food bundles.  They can only use manufacturer grocery coupons; no store coupons or restaurant coupons.

I personally donate all of my expired coupons to an American Legion Auxiliary at the following address:

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 450
450 Victor Stier Dr.
Milford, OH 45150

The American Legion Auxiliary will clip the coupons for you.  Another option would be checking with your local American Legion Auxiliary to see if they participate.

Please consider donating your coupons. It is just a small token of appreciation that we can provide to our military families!
